Own it!

I was curious about Bollywood. I'd heard a fair amount about the whole scene from a variety of sources over the years, but never quite knew how to get a look at these films. I discovered the "That's Bollywood!" section on Stomp Tokyo and was astonished by the reviews. These movies sounded like major turkeys - I had to see some. The problem still remained about how to get them. I approached an Indian friend of mine at work (We'll call him Money, he seems to like that) and asked if he had any movies from home that he liked. Well he didn't, but knew where to get some.

Knowing nothing about the movie he got other than recognizing some of the faces on the cover, he brought me the subject of this review, Jaani Dushman. It was absolutely everything I was looking for and then some. It's silly. It completely steals scenes from major Hollywood productions, including but not limited to Terminator 2 and The Matrix. There was singing and dancing all over the place. I was hooked.

I must confess to feeling a little guilty at this point for picking on this movie. One of the stars of this film is the lovely Ms. Manisha Koirala. I noticed her in this one as being quite beautiful. As luck would have it, the next movie Money picked up for me was Gupt, also featuring Ms. Koirala. More on that one at a later time. So as regretful as it is to have the object of my affections in this "interesting" piece of cinema, we must proceed to the review proper.

For this outing, we have on the roster:

Divya/Vasundhra (Manisha Koirala) - our victim/heroine
Kapil (Munish Kohli) - he's a snake. Literally.
Atul (Akshay Kumar)- the toughest man alive. You'll see.
Nita - Atul's girlfriend and True Believer (tm).
Vijay (Sunil Shetty) - boxer and all-around athletic type.
Priti (Mohini Sharma) - For some reason, she's dubbed by another actress speaking Hindi.
Rajesh - Leader of the Sleaze Brothers.
Madan (Siddharth) - Sleaze Brother #2.
Seema - the significant other of...
Victor (Sharad Kapoor) - cannon fodder and photographer.
Vivek (Sonu Nigam) - A real Indian pop star who happens to play one in this movie. Step-bro of...
Karan (Sunny Deol) - spends a lot of the movie looking mad.
Abdul (Arshad Warsi) - Odious Comic Relief. Happily, he doesn't survive the film.
Prem (Aftab Shivdasani) - He's broke, but in love with...
Rashmi - who happens to be with...
Ashok (Aditya Pancholi) - Big rich jerk. I mean really big jerk.
The Principal - also a master of parapsychology.

I didn't realize there were so many characters when I started this. Now that we've met everyone, let's get to the story.
